Cutting grooves to retrofit driveway with snow melting system

A professional saw cutter cuts ¼-inch wide and 1 to 1½-inch deep grooves.

Installation of radiant heated driveway

Backer rod, a foam filler, is stuffed in the grooves to take up space between the heating cable and sealant.

Splicing heat cable for snow melting system

The heat cable is spliced to the cold lead, which connects to the control unit.

Installation of snow melting system

Grooves ½ to 1-inch wide are cut in the garage to run the cold lead to the control units. Gray concrete sealant is used in the garage to cover the cold leads.

Control units mounted for snow melting system

Two control units control the snow melting systems - 240V 30-amp breakers are required to power each zone.

Aerial mounted snow sensor for radiant snowmelt system

An aerial mounted snow switch is used to automatically turn on the snow melting systems when there is moisture in the air and the temperature is near freezing.

Retrofitting driveway with radiant snow melting system

Blacktop sealant is used to seal the asphalt driveway and gray concrete sealant is used for the sidewalks and in the garage.
